Dawn of a century, said his good-byes
Moved into town, a new life
Found a small place, a year shy of twenty, then
Saw her the very first time, was the
Fourth of July at the fairgrounds
She was the belle of the ball
He did his best to keep a hold to his breath, but
Felt his heart starting to fall
She danced under the Georgia moon
Sparkled as bright as the stars
The man she’d chosen was tall, dark and handsome
She danced the whole night in his arms
She danced under the Georgia moon
Danced the whole night in his arms
They were holding each other so close
They fit like a hand in a glove
Totally lost in each others eyes
Folks saw a picture of love
He was like a kid, looking in a store window
Seeing something he just couldn’t have
So young, so shy, he stood and stared
He learned about heartbreak firsthand
