I pulled up stakes said good-bye to that old town
Weren’t nothing there could ever tie me down
Wherever winds would blow me a rolling tumbleweed
I’d always find, the same old me
Hit the wide Pacific in two long high speed days
Surf was up, some beach kids were at play
All my baggage kept me from joining in their dreams
I stood apart, the same old me
Wherever I’d check in settle down to spend a night
Come morning I’d always face the usual sight
Mirror showed reflections clear as clear could be
A few more wrinkles, the same old me
Back in school I never found
A group with room for me
Always on the outside looking in
Same thing went down at work
No place where I would fit
The way it’s always been
The more I moved around in life only places changed
Cards I was dealt they all remained the same
Read them and weep what will be will surely be
I always find the same old me
