Rivers come and rivers go
Exactly as they please
Forming rapids white with foam
Or pools so still, so dark and deep
Things can change around each bend
Like you appeared one day
You had me holding on for dear life
As you swept me away

A river’s like a lover
Day to day might change her mind
Rock you in her gentle arms
Or leave you high and dry
A river’s like a lover
In the ebb and flow of life
She can be a wonder
Or a bittersweet surprise

At times I was so full of you
Feels like I’d surely drown
Then you would float off somewhere
Were nowhere to be found
I’m staring at that river now
That carried you to me
One day you just drifted off
To distant lands and seas
