Pulled into town round suppertime
Back home to Texas from L.A.
Saw the gang from my high school days
Hanging at the sunset café
Shared hello kisses and man hugs
Talked about school truths and lies
I crossed the street to the old rooming house
To grab some sleep and dream of Madeline
Madeline Madeline
No one knew her whereabouts anymore
Madeline Madeline
She’s the one I came back looking for
Woke up next morning and looked around
Town had seen far better days
Half the stores were closed and shuttered
The rest were surely on their way
Went to the drive in, our smokin memories
Not showing movies any more
Looked like a fossil skeleton
Dresden after the firestorm
Town looked like something filmed in black and white
Sagebrush had the run of old Main Street
Nothing like those technicolor nights
Madeline and me
