Half Way to Mexico City

Bill Soden

Found some pizza crusts in the kitchen this morning
Washed them down with some day old coffee
All the while I kept thinking about last week
When you told me I was not in your league

Snagged a butt from an ashtray
Fired it up and took off down the road
Maybe a long walk would be able to clear my head
Help me to shake off this real heavy load

Bet you by now you’re half way to Mexico City
Hacienda and family you showed me pictures of
I was a fool to believe we had something
What was I thinking when I thought it was love
What was I thinking when I thought it was love

You came to the states to learn English
I was your teacher til other things came to mind
Basically filled up your head with lots of nonsense
We wasted whole lots of each other’s time

When you stayed after class, you delivered
We were the talk of that real small college town
Your loving carried me sky high
Your leaving brought me crashing down
