Two kids took a walk just a meaning to talk
Things didn’t work out that way
They lay down together
Baby came later
Nine months to the day

He was up north, joined the army of Virginia
Fought side his brothers in grey
From the darkness of hell
Screamed a high rebel yell
Kept Potomac army at bay

He was fighting half a country away
When that letter arrived
A real sweet picture
Of little Melissa
Safe in the arms of his wife

He wrote right away. said he’d be home soon
This war will finally end
