Fields, Air and Waves

Bill Soden

Standing proud and tall, as their anthems play
Dressed in the colors of war
No fear in their eyes, all they is see is distant glory
No idea what they’re fighting for

Bravely they go, their colors held high
Cross lands and seas to join fight
When they stare into the belly of the beast
They pray somehow they’ll survive

The power of the old, the rich and the weak
Sends the young, strong and poor to their fate
Every war, over and over
They die in the fields, air and waves
The fields, the air and the waves

Best laid plans of men dissolve in confusion
Noise and chaos and death
News takes a long time to reach back home
To the rich, old and weak safe in their beds
