Big City Lights

Bill Soden

I remember how stars could fill up the night
Shimmering like ice or shooting cross the sky
I never see those stars anymore
And I know why
I’m living under big city lights
Big city lights, neon nights

Moved to the city for the glitz and the glam
Like Nice Carraway, packed up and come out east
Right off I felt the excitement
Soon gave me no peace
Living under big city lights
Big city lights, neon nights

I miss watching a creek wander off
Finding its way to the sea
I miss looking up every night
And seeing eternity

Sometimes at night, drinking and thinking alone
Swear I hear a whippoorwill calling me home
City’s not the place for me
Big crowds but kind of alone
Lost under big city lights
Big city lights, neon nights
