She lived in a swamp on the outskirts of town
On a dirt road that didn’t have no name
She was wild as the wildest wind
Near impossible to tame
Backwater girl
Never had a home
Mom and dad left
Raised herself on her own
Backwater girl
Burned in my mind
Swimming in the pond
Dressed in the moonlight
Cyprus trees reached up to the the sky
Owls would hoot through the night
A dead black mysterious place
Could give a body a fright
When she’d come to town to get her supplies
Swayed so natural when she walked
Ladies didn’t like her no no no way
Whole lots of talk talk talk
She moved like a liquid heatwave
Her abundance open on display
Men checked out her every move
Weren’t no taking their eyes away
