The light in our window is the only sign of life
On the two lane running out of town
How will I tell you when I walk through the door
They're gonna shut the factory down
Lightning cuts the sky and for a moment what's revealed
Are fields of wheat like endless rolling seas
In the land of milk and honey one hard question's facing me
How am I gonna feed my family
There's a cold wind blowing in the heartland
It's cuttin through me like a knife
I'm afraid to face tomorrow
And angry cause I don't know who to fight
Seems like yesterday the people came from Hollywood
Makin movies bout the farms and factories too
But it's so deathly quiet in the middle of this night
Feel like yesterday's news
Maybe we should quit this town, but I don't know where to run
Helpless as a leaf caught in the wind
All the cards that I've been holding, God knows they've played
How's a man supposed to ever win
