Eighteen hundreds rough years in Scotland
People thrown off their farms
Took shelter on the coastline
Scrounged for food, no staying warm
One dream kept them going
Beyond the sun to the west
A new world awaited
Fare thee well to Inverness
Found passage cross the ocean
Sailed into the great unknown
Rugged coast of Nova Scotia
Reminded them of home
Cleared out trees, the fields of stone
Fished rivers and the sea
Built a small United Church
Carved survival out of these
Highlands run through my veins
Calling from the past
I hear the sound of pipes and drums
And the song of a highland lass
The sound of pipes and drums
And the song of a gaelic lass
I live in the states today
These stories passed to me
Removed by generations
But they still live and breathe
Whatever people tell you
Nothing’s stronger than the blood
Reaches through the mists of time
Boils inside you like a flood
