Way too young, left my hometown and family
A world of mistakes, made them all on my own
Never let no one close enough to reach me
Why oh why, not sure I really know
Lived where mountains still hold their snow in the summer
Travelled cross country so many times
Everywhere I ran there I was in the mirror
Truth looking at me right square in the eye
Ain’t nothing sadder than a desperado
So damn foolish in a man full grown
I hit rock bottom down in El Paso
Down to the nub, tired of being alone
You made me so tired of being alone
You slipped into my life kind of peaceful like
No lightning strikes, no shock from the blue
Snuck up on me, and before I knew it
Found myself, falling deep into you
Bathed in your warmth, your grace, and your beauty
I discovered, how close two could be
You had strengths I found I could lean on
And softness, soft like an angel’s wing
