Just Another Yesterday

Bill Soden

I feel a cold winter is heading this way
The last few leaves, they chatter in the trees
The creek out back is calming down, having a change of heart
Soon be running slower, and finally freeze
Heading up the hill to my hearth and home
Feel the wet wind scratching at my face
Her memory came alive today, can’t say I’m surprised
Been a tough one to erase

I’m wondering why she keeps coming to my mind
She’s just another yesterday, so far away
Never all that special, sometimes drove me loco
She’s just another yesterday
All she was or will be
A yesterday

I remember playing the role of the coyote
She played the part of the household pet
How she turned the tables, still a mystery
Haven’t figured out how she did it yet
Lean and mean I lured her to me
But she turned the capture into the chase
Then one day she left me, my feet nailed to the ground
Spread her wings and flew away
