Heading south, crossed the Mason Dixon
No hurry to get anywhere
Cruising down the Blue Ridge Highway
Where ‘m I headed, I’ll know when I’m there
They’ve got some flashy new cities
Not what I’m looking for
I’m staying on backroads, eyes and ears open
Diving headfirst into southern lore
South of the Mason and Dixon
The Mason Dixon Line
Living breathing American gothic
A different state of mind
No better place on earth
To take a walk back in time
South of the Mason and Dixon
The Mason Dixon Line
Going where good ole boys met the blues men
Invented rock and roll
How did the collard greens meet the cornbread
And who on earth discovered soul
High Cotton, white lightning and
Mansions of the old south
Listen, you might hear a steam boat whistle
Or somebody saying “well shut my mouth”
Small towns, church bells on Sunday
I could settle down in this world
Find some work to make ends meet
And go out looking for a sweet southern girl
