Small town, Mississippi
way back, mid-fifties
Sun dripping, I’m sweating
Hot Delta day
I see her, each morning
Don’t know where she’s going
She pass by, easy rolling
A gentle sway
Our worlds were black and white
No room for shades of gray
Forbidden fruit was tempting
Had to let it lay
God, how I ached to know her
Maybe even get to hold her
Doors sealed tight, keeping us at bay
Had to let it lay
Small town, Mississippi
Sometimes she’d be singing
Had legs forever, a high yellow
Hot Delta day
One time, she caught she me looking
She smiled, she was cooking
I blushed, a hot rush
Nothing I could say
